On Subword Complexities of Homomorphic Images of Languages

چکیده
— The subword complexity of a language K is the function nK on positive integer s such that nK (n) equals the number of different subwords of length n appearing in words of X. We investigate the relationship between nk(K) and nK where Kis a language and h is a homorphism. This study is aiso carried out for the special case when Kis a DOL language. Resumé. — La complexité des facteurs d'un langage K est la fonction nK définie sur les entiers positifs telle que nK (n) est le nombre de facteurs distincts de longueur n apparaissant dans les mots de K. Nous étudions les relations existant entre KH(K) et nKi où K est un langage et h est un homomorphisme. Cette étude est menée également dans le cas particulier où Kest un DOL langage.

Subword complexities and iteration
This paper is an overview of results' on the subword complexity of various classes of languages obtained by iterating a mapping, and more precisely on the asymptotic behaviour of this complexity. In the first section we consider iterated morphisms, that is DOL languages. In this area the subword complexity falls into one of five classes, and class membership can be determined. The second sectio...
متن کاملComplexity in Convex Languages
A language L is prefix-convex if, whenever words u and w are in L with u a prefix of w, then every word v which has u as a prefix and is a prefix of w is also in L. Similarly, we define suffix-, factor-, and subword-convex languages, where by subword we mean subsequence. Together, these languages constitute the class of convex languages which contains interesting subclasses, such as ideals, clo...
متن کاملRecurrent Partial Words and Representable Sets
Partial words are sequences over a finite alphabet that may contain wildcard symbols, called holes, which match or are compatible with all letters; partial words without holes are said to be total words (or simply words). Given an infinite partial word w, the number of distinct total words over the alphabet that are compatible with factors of w of a given length, called subwords of w, refers to...
متن کاملQuotient Complexity of Bifix-, Factor-, and Subword-Free Regular Languages
A language L is prefix-free if, whenever words u and v are in L and u is a prefix of v, then u = v. Suffix-, factor-, and subword-free languages are defined similarly, where “subword” means “subsequence”. A language is bifix-free if it is both prefixand suffix-free. We study the quotient complexity, more commonly known as state complexity, of operations in the classes of bifix-, factor-, and su...
متن کاملPronunciation Lexicon Development for Under-Resourced Languages Using Automatically Derived Subword Units: A Case Study on Scottish Gaelic
Developing a phonetic lexicon for a language requires linguistic knowledge as well as human effort, which may not be available, particularly for under-resourced languages. To avoid the need for the linguistic knowledge, acoustic information can be used to automatically obtain the subword units and the associated pronunciations. Towards that, the present paper investigates the potential of a rec...
